DR. DANA PLEW

Since 1997 I’ve provided podiatric services to all of central Iowa through my clinic; the Johnston Foot & Ankle Clinic.   I treat children and adults for a broad range of lower leg, ankle and foot conditions.  A fairly complete list of the issues I treat can be found on the home page under Foot Care and Ankle Services.  If you are uncertain of what is causing your pain, please call my office for an evaluation appointment.  My staff will take x-rays as needed and a health history that will aid the diagnosis and treatment of your concerns.     Often I am able to suggest exercises that that will assist in your healing as well as provide treatment as needed.

As an avid athlete and outdoor enthusiast, I am  interested in sports related injuries and related podiatric issues.  I employ a treatment modality called radial pulse therapy (RPT) and focal shock wave therapy (EPAT) for many foot and ankle problems.   Both treatment types are used in physiotherapy and sports medicine, providing fast pain relief and restoration of mobility to the area.   These non-surgical therapies alleviate the need for pain killers and help speed your recovery.   The FDA has cleared both RPT and EPAT therapies to treat chronic foot, heel and ankle pain; often providing alternatives to steroid injections, lengthy physical therapy, and even surgery.  I’ve helped patients suffering for years with chronic plantar fasciitis return to living a life pain free.

I am a lifelong resident of the Des Moines community.  I completed my undergraduate program at the University of Iowa and attended medical school at the Des Moines University, graduating with a doctorate degree in Podiatric Medicine.

My passion is running and I’ve completed multiple marathons over the years, including the Boston Marathon.  I also enjoy travel, hiking, and organic gardening.   I live with my partner and two adorable canines; Scout a rescue beagle and Rowan a sassy Australian shepherd.
